Te Rau Ora and the Centre of Māori Suicide Prevention are pleased to announce the launch of the 2022 Māori Community Suicide Prevention Fund.

The Māori Community Suicide Prevention Fund is aimed at whānau and community driven approaches to prevent suicide, or to offer support to those bereaved by suicide.

Since 2014, Te Rau Ora has invested over $5 million into 182 whānau and community driven approaches.  We have worked with communities to evaluate these initiatives and share our learning with the Health and Social Sector.  We have also shared these Māori solutions through our international indigenous networks, international forums, and international indigenous peer-reviewed journals.   We now see Māori suicide prevention models helping to shape and strengthen indigenous led solutions in over 18 countries around the world.

For this year, we are encouraging applications that:

  • Build whānau capability to support whānau aspirations, self-management, independence, and autonomy.
  • Emphasise Māori culture and values, while being inclusive of people from all ethnicities and backgrounds
  • Have applied clinically and culturally safe messages about suicide prevention and suicide risk.
  • Have a connection with and in Māori communities to facilitate community leadership, champions, and effective engagement.
  • Have a clear and measurable service that are centred around the aspirations of whānau.
  • Have a commitment to sharing knowledge, insights, and information with other communities

We invite online applications from whānau, hapū, iwi, community groups or Māori Organisations for initiatives between $10,000 and $100,000.  The Fund is open from 14 March 2022 and will close at Midday on Monday 18 April 2022.
