Description
He Waka Tapu is a Kaupapa Māori Non-Government Organisation (NGO) based in Aranui, Christchurch. They work with whānau and individuals who want to have positive health and wellness. They provide Anger Management services, Alcohol and Drug services, Whānau services, Personal Health services and Looking for Mahi services. They have over 25 staff that help coordinate and deliver these services. He Waka Tapu are leaders in the utilisation of online tools and have developed one to support whaiora in their recovery called Whaiora. This internet based tool allows individuals, groups and communities to come together and support one another through their recovery. They are 1 of 2 Kia Piki Te Ora (Ministry of Health suicide prevention programme) contract deliverers in the South Island. They have many connections in their community and are accustomed to running pro-grammes and providing support to their community.
